Background Information

PAOX, also known as PAO, belongs to the flavin monoamine oxidase family. PAOX is a FAD-dependent amine oxidase, which is constitutively expressed in nearly all tissues of the vertebrate organism. PAOX catalyzes the oxidation of N1-acetylspermine to spermidine and thus involved in the polyamine back-conversion. PAOX can also oxidize N1-acetylspermidine to putrescine. PAOX has 4 isoforms with the molecular weights of 7, 35, 52 and 56 kDa.
