Background Information

TSPAN6 (also known as TM4SF6) is a membrane protein of the tetraspanin superfamily, which are characterized by the presence of four conserved transmembrane regions. Tetraspanins have been involved in diverse processes such as cell activation and proliferation, adhesion and motility, differentiation, and cancer. TSPAN6 gene is widely expressed, with high mRNA levels in liver, pancreas, kidney, and ovary (PMID: 9782095). TSPAN6 has been reported as a negative regulator of the RLR pathway by interacting with MAVS in a ubiquitination-dependent manner (PMID: 22908223).
