Background Information
The synaptotagmins are integral membrane proteins of synaptic vesicles thought to serve as Ca(2+) sensors in the process of vesicular trafficking and exocytosis (PMID: 8058779). Synaptotagmin-4 is an atypical synaptic vesicle protein that is expressed in the dendrites of neurons. It mediates retrograde signals at the synapse and the release of BDNF, and regulates synaptic plasticity, motor learning, and memory. (PMID: 27223326;29166604 )
