Background Information
AHI1, encoding the Jouberin protein, is an alternatively spliced signaling molecule that contains seven Trp-Asp (WD) repeats, an SH3 domain, and numerous SH3-binding sites. AHI1 is expressed strongly in embryonic hindbrain and forebrain. AHI1 is involved in vesicle trafficking and is required for ciliogenesis, formation of primary non-motile cilium, and recruitment of RAB8A to the basal body of primary cilium. AHI1, as a positive modulator of classical Wnt signaling, may play a key role in ciliary signaling during cerebellar embryonic development (PMID: 15467982, PMID: 21623382).
