Background
Human acid ceramidase (AC1; ASAH1) catalyzes the hydrolysis of ceramide to sphingosine and fatty acid. This protein is first synthesized as an 55-kDa precursor and subsequently processed to the mature, heterodimeric enzyme (40 + 13 kDa) in the endosomes/lysosomes. |
