Background Information
Zipper-interacting protein (ZIP) kinase, also known as death-associated protein kinase 3 (DAPK3), is a
serine/threonine kinase that positively regulates mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis as well as autophagy
and acts as a tumor suppressor.
What is the molecular weight of ZIP kinase? Is ZIP kinase post-translationally modified?
The molecular weight of ZIP kinase is 52 kDa. ZIP kinase contains seven phosphorylation sites (six threonine
and one serine residues) that control its activity and localization (PMID: 24193917).
What is the subcellular localization of ZIP kinase?
ZIP kinase contains nuclear localization signal in its C-terminal part. ZIP kinase is present both in the cytoplasm
and in the nucleus. In the cytoplasm ZIP kinase interacts with actin cytoskeleton, regulating contraction of
smooth muscles (PMID: 16005610) and membrane blebbing (PMID: 11781833). In the nucleus it interacts
with several transcription factors regulating gene expression.
What is the tissue expression pattern of ZIP kinase?
ZIP kinase is ubiquitously expressed.
