Background Information
RHBDD1 (Rhomboid Domain Containing 1), also known as RHBDL4), is a rhomboid endomembrane serine protease located on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It plays a key role in cellular protein quality control, apoptosis and lipid homeostasis. RHBDD1 is capable of cleaving misfolded transmembrane proteins on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, thereby facilitating their transport to the cytoplasm for degradation by the proteasome.
