Hintergrundinformationen

The CDY1B gene, also known as Chromodomain Y-Linked 1B, is a Protein Coding gene located on the Y chromosome. It is one of the two identical copies of the CDY1 gene within the AZFc region of the human Y chromosome. As a histone acetyltransferase, CDY1B exhibits a strong preference for histone 4, suggesting its involvement in both spermatogenic histone replacement and DNA transcription. It plays a significant role in the chromatin remodeling of round spermatid nuclei, contributing to the transition from histone-based chromatin to protamine-based chromatin during spermatogenesis. This transition is essential for the condensation of sperm DNA and the formation of mature sperm. Deletion of either CDY1 can lead to spermatogenic failure and male infertility.
