It worked well for WB as I know which band to look at based on molecular weight. It stains a lot of non-specific molecules in IF, which seem to include something like actin fibers

Our own custom antibody: I used an antibody customary made by a commercial company. The best crude serum of our choice was affinity purified.Problems: los of non-specific bands, cannot re-use antibody solution for the next membrane. Sometimes does not work and do not show any band even in control.Proteintech antibody: strong band of specific protein. Knock down shows expression but reduced compared to controls, which is more realistic than zero expression in all the cells.
