HOXB5 plays a crucial role in the development of the lung and gut. It is essential for the proper formation and differentiation of these organs during embryonic development. Hoxb5 exhibits preferential expression in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and uniquely marks the long-term HSCs (LT-HSCs) (PMID: 38324932).
