Hintergrundinformationen

TSSK2 (Testis-Specific Serine/Threonine Kinase 2) is a member of the TSSK family, predominantly expressed in the testis and involved in spermiogenesis and male fertility. It is localized in various regions of sperm, including the centrioles of post-meiotic spermatids, the tail, acrosomal regions, and the midpiece. TSSK2 plays a crucial role in sperm maturation by phosphorylating substrates such as TSKS and SPAG16L. Studies have shown that TSSK2 knockout mice exhibit infertility due to impaired spermatid elongation and sperm maturation. Additionally, TSSK2 is considered a promising target for reversible male contraception, with several potent inhibitors identified through high-throughput screening.
