mCherry is a fluorophore (a fluorescent protein) used in biotechnology as a tracer to follow the flow of fluids, as a marker when tagged to molecules and cell components. mCherry is the second generation monomeric red fluorescent protein that have improved brightness and photostability. mCherry and the majority of red fluorescent proteins derive from a protein isolated from Discosoma sp. mCherry is a monomeric fluorescent construct with peak absorption/emission at 587 nm and 610 nm, respectively.

We are running out of a home-made sheep anti RFP antibody and trying to find a replacement. I ran samples transfected with a mCHERRY-tagged protein side by side to compare our old antibody and this one. Although I detected clearly the expression of the mCHERRY tagged protein with this antibody, it was not as sensitive as the sheep one we had and there were some bands of my protein of interest that I could not detect clearly. Upping the concentration from 1:5,000 to 1:1,000 did not make any clear difference. So although the antibody works it is not sensitive enough for my needs.
