Background
LY75 (also known as CD205) is a type I transmembrane surface protein, which is mainly expressed on dendritic cells (DCs) and thymic cortical epithelial cells. LY75 is a member of the MMR family of multidomain molecules. It contains a cysteine rich N-terminal domain, a fibronectin type II domain, and multiple C-type lectin-like domains. LY75/CD205 serves as an endocytosis receptor involved in antigen uptake, presentation, and initiation of the immune response. LY75/CD205 plays an important role in antigen uptake and presentation and T cell activation.
