Background Information

MBOAT1 (membrane bound O-acyltransferase domain containing 1), also known as LPLAT or LPSAT. It is expected to be located in membrane and widely expressed in colon, small intestine. MBOAT1 belongs to the membrane-bound O- acetyltransferase superfamily. Its encoded transmembrane protein is an enzyme that transfers organic compounds, preferably oleoyl-CoA, to the hydroxyl group of protein target in the membrane. The translocation that destroys the gene may be related to short finger toe syndrome. At the same time, it may also play a role in neurite growth during neuronal differentiation (PMID: 18772128). Studies have determined that phospholipid modifying enzymes MBOAT1 and MBOAT2 are iron sag inhibitors. MBOAT1/2 can inhibit iron sag by reshaping the phospholipid profile of cells, and their iron sag monitoring function is independent of GPX4 or FSP1. MBOAT1 and MBOAT2 are up-regulated by sex hormone receptors, namely estrogen receptor (ER) and androgen receptor (AR), respectively (PMID: 37267948). The calculated molecular weight of MBOAT1 is 57 kDa. This antibody can recognize the 40 kDa isoform of MBOAT1.
