Background Information

NDFIP2 (Nedd4 family interacting protein 2) is a gene encoding a membrane-anchored adapter protein involved in a variety of cellular processes. It regulates protein ubiquitination and degradation by binding to the Nedd4 family of E3 ubiquitin ligases.NDFIP2 has a wide intracellular distribution, including the Golgi, mitochondria, and perinuclear region of the cytoplasm. Its function involves negative regulation of gene expression, negative regulation of protein transport, and positive regulation of protein ubiquitination. In addition, NDFIP2 is associated with a variety of diseases, such as supratentorial ventricular meningiomas in children. In the cardiovascular field, NDFIP2 affects cardiac electrophysiologic function by regulating the degradation of hERG potassium channels. It is also involved in the immune response, affecting T cell function by regulating cytokine signaling pathways. In oncology, NDFIP2 has been found to affect the antiviral response by targeting IFITM3.
