How to use your PhD: Alternative careers for ECRs
Sep. 26th. Unsure what to do after your PhD? Join our online event to hear from professionals in the field.
Unsure what to do after your PhD/Postdoc? We all know about the traditional PhD-postdoc-lecturer route, but often early-career researchers (ECRs) are unaware of the huge variety of roles available to them. Proteintech is hosting 4 professionals with diverse roles, so you can hear first hand what they do, and how they got there.
This webinar is now complete.
ECR panel:
Dr Rhys Jones: Senior Clinical Scientist, NHS England
Rhys graduated with a PhD in Immunology from the University of Birmingham before completing the NHS Scientist Training Programme in the field of Clinical Biochemistry. Rhys is now a Registered Clinical Scientist in the Department of Biochemistry where he applies his scientific skillset to support patient diagnosis and management.
Dr Josie Thomas: Research Manager, University of Manchester
Josie recently finished her PhD in neuroscience and had known for a while that lab research wasn’t for her. Josie is now working as a research manager, doing behind-the-scenes management work from grant writing, lab organisation to capacity building and strategic planning.
Dr Praveen Paul: Director and Co-Founder, Pint of Science
During a Postdoc at Imperial College London, Praveen "accidentally" co-founded Pint of Science - an annual science festival which brings researchers and people from the community to hear about the research being done around them. Pint of Science is now the largest science festival in the world with events in over 500 cities in more than 25 countries, and Praveen runs this not-for-profit company full time.
Dr Micah Rahman-Enyart: Associate Research Administrator, Northwestern University
Micah is an Associate Research Administrator at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases where he is responsible for submitting funding proposals and managing sponsored research projects after receiving the awards. He previously attended Indiana University Bloomington, where he completed doctoral degrees in Kinesiology and Neuroscience. Outside of the office, he is a father to two hound dogs, two cats, and a very energetic 2-year-old toddler.
Dr. Claudia Rangel-Barajas: Project Manager, MODEL-AD
Dr. Claudia Rangel-Barajas received a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology and her Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnical Institute, in Mexico City. Her main research interests focused on Neurosciences and Neurodegeneration. She has published in multiple prestigious scientific journals and given presentations at national and international conferences.
