Background
ASGR2, or asialoglycoprotein receptor 2, is a gene that plays a significant role in the clearance of glycoproteins from the bloodstream. The receptor is highly expressed in the liver, where it is located on the sinusoidal face of hepatocytes, and is also found in other cell types such as peritoneal macrophages, intestinal epithelial cells, and testis. The serum ASGR2 level is an efficacy biomarker for balloon pulmonary angioplasty in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Gastric cancer cell-invasive activity was significantly decreased with the knockdown of ASGR2, forced expression of ASGR2 promoted invasive activity.
