Product overview:
KE00174 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The beta-NGF ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous beta -NGF. The assay recognizes human beta-NGF. An antibody specific for beta -NGF has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The beta-NGF protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for beta-NGF is added to detect the captured beta-NGF protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background

NGF is a member of the neurotrophin family that regulates cell proliferation and differentiation within specific neural tissues, under both physiological and pathological condition. As NGF plays a key role in the proliferation, differentiation, and regulation of neural stem cells, several studies have indicated the clinical potential of NGF treatment in the regeneration of nerve cells following injury. NGF is initially in a 7S, 130-kDa complex of 3 proteins: alpha-NGF, beta-NGF, and gamma-NGF, while the beta subunit, exhibits all the biological activities ascribed to NGF. Beta-NGF stimulates the growth of sympathetic and some sensory neurites.
