Meet the expert: Dr Kevin Qian - New findings in brown adipose tissue metabolism

Brown fat is a potential therapeutic target in disorders of energy balance such as obesity. One hallmark of brown adipocytes is "multilocularity" -- the organization of lipid stores into many small lipid droplets. We identified a novel brown fat-specific protein named CLSTN3β that establishes this characteristic phenotype and enables efficient utilization of stored triglycerides.
