Background Information
ZIM3 (Zinc Finger Imprinted 3), also known as ZNF657 or ZNF264, is a protein containing zinc finger and KRAB domains. It belongs to the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc finger protein family and comprises 11 C2H2-type zinc fingers and 1 KRAB domain. ZIM3 influences chromatin organization by binding to the KAP1 protein, thereby regulating gene transcription. ZIM3 is predicted to have DNA-binding transcription factor activity and is involved in the transcriptional regulation of RNA polymerase II. Additionally, ZIM3 plays a core regulatory role in human major zygotic genome activation (ZGA).
