Background

A1BG, which stands for Alpha-1B-Glycoprotein, is a glycoprotein primarily synthesized by the liver and secreted into the bloodstream. It is an important component of plasma proteins, but its precise physiological function has long remained unclear, earning it the designation of an "orphan" plasma protein. Current research indicates that as a secretory protein, A1BG undergoes significant changes in serum concentration under various disease conditions. Particularly in multiple cancers (such as liver cancer and ovarian cancer), autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory responses, it demonstrates considerable potential as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker. Although its molecular mechanisms have not yet been fully elucidated, it is hypothesized to be involved in processes such as immune regulation and protease inhibition.
