Background

Resistin is a member of the resistin-like molecule family (RELMs) that includes three additional proteins, RELM-α, RELM-β, RELM-y . Resistin is almost exclusively expressed in white adipocytes in mice, whereas macrophages are the primary source in humans . In a variety of pathophysiologic states, particularly in type 2 diabetes mellitus and in chronic kidney disease, the serum concentration of resistin is increased.
