Background
ICAM3, also known as CD50 or CDW50, is a protein-coding gene in humans. It encodes a member of the intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) family, which are type I transmembrane glycoproteins containing immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains. ICAM proteins are ligands for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1 (integrin alpha-L/beta-2). ICAM3 is also a ligand for integrin alpha-D/beta-2. In association with integrin alpha-L/beta-2, contributes to apoptotic neutrophil phagocytosis by macrophages. ICAM3 is expressed with biased expression in bone marrow, spleen, and 12 other tissues. It is found in epithelium, endothelium, leukocytes, fibroblasts, erythrocytes, platelets, and neurons.
