Background Information
IGF1R (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 Receptor) is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase. It plays a critical role in growth, development, metabolism, and disease pathogenesis. IGF1R is a heterotetramer composed of two extracellular α-subunits (ligand-binding) and two transmembrane β-subunits (tyrosine kinase domain). IGF1R regulates adipocyte development and lipid storage. Adipocyte-specific knockout increases circulating IGF-1 levels.
