Background Information

MUC15 is a transmembrane mucin that is ubiquitously expressed on the surface of epithelial cells as a membrane-bound glycoprotein. MUC15 plays a dual role in cellular processes, participating in cell adhesion, signal transduction, and regulating receptor tyrosine kinase activity. Its expression is frequently altered in various cancers, acting as a context-dependent tumor suppressor or promoter.(PMID: 32479243;16904320; 30420637)
