Background Information
MXRA5, or adlican, is an adhesion proteoglycan involved in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and cell-cell adhesion (PMID: 22696596). In kidney, MXRA5 has anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties by limiting the induction of chemokines, fibronectin and collagen expression in response to TGB1 and pro-inflammatory stimuli (PMID: 27599751). MXRA5 was identified as a novel biomarker in colorectal cancer, mainly located in the cytoplasm of CRC cells (PMID:23420087). Exome sequencing identified MXRA5 as a novel cancer gene mutated in non-small cell lung carcinoma (PMID: 22696596). MXRA5 was detected 163 kDa in human proximal tubular cells (PMID:27599751).
