Background Information
Nestin, also named as NES and Nbla00170, is a class VI intermediate filament protein expressed in stem cells of the central nervous system (CNS) but not in mature CNS cells. Its expression is used extensively as a marker for neural lineage cells derived from human embryonic stem (hES) and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. Nestin is also expressed in non-neural stem cell populations such as pancreatic islet progenitors and hematopoietic progenitors. Nestin can be detected as 220-240 kDa and 240-280 kDa. Studies point toward nestin heavy posttranslational modifications as possibly serving particular functions in podocytes and in a few other particular cell types(PMID: 17210924).

Reviews
What customers say
Five of six reviewers rated this Nestin antibody 5 stars, praising its high specificity and reliable performance in Western blot and immunofluorescence across cell lines (MSCs, U2OS, iPSC-derived neural progenitors) and tissue. Recommended dilutions ranged from 1:100 to 1:1000 depending on application. One reviewer gave 2 stars, reporting inconclusive results in human brain cortical sections with a DAPI halo and no clear nestin signal. Overall, the antibody is well-regarded for WB and IF in cell-based assays, with mixed results in fixed tissue sections.
The reviews below have been submitted by verified Proteintech customers who received an incentive for providing their feedback.
Cristine (Verified Customer) (11-09-2025) | The Nestin antibody worked very well and with high specificity at the dilution of 1:100 after overnight incubation at 4oC in immunocytochemistry assays of neural progenitor cells derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells.

|
Reyes (Verified Customer) (03-18-2024) | I tested nestin (in red) in human brain cortical sections obtained from pediatric patients, and the result was inconclusive, as it looks like ther is a halo around my DAPI, and there is no clear nestin marking in any cell type in the tissue.
