Background Information
ZSCAN1 is a transcription factor containing a zinc finger domain and a SCAN domain. ZSCAN1 has been implicated in diverse biological processes. It has been shown to act as a stemness-related tumor suppressor and transcriptional repressor in breast cancer, targeting TAZ to influence cancer progression. Additionally, ZSCAN1 is involved in early embryonic development, where it helps regulate the expression of genes necessary for proper embryogenesis. It also plays a role in the immune response, with anti-ZSCAN1 autoantibodies being identified as potential diagnostic markers for certain syndromes like ROHHAD (PMID: 38339072). According to Human Protein Atlas database, ZSCAN1 is mainly expressed in brain, pituitary gland and testis tissue.
