Background Information
Heterochromatin protein 1 binding protein 3(HP1BP3) associates with chromatin throughout the cell cycle and is required to maintain higher order chromatin structure during metaphase. HP1BP3 as a novel modulator of cognitive aging using a genetically diverse population of mice and confirm that HP1BP3 protein levels are significantly reduced in the hippocampi of cognitively impaired elderly humans relative to cognitively intact controls. Double-band staining is typical of HP1BP3 expression, indicative of multiple splice variants present in brain tissue.
