Background Information
OTUB2, also known as C14orf137, belongs to the OTU family. OTUB2 is a functional cysteine protease with deubiquitinase activity. OTUB2 mediates the deubiquitination of substrate proteins, and the targets of substrate proteins can be diversified. Therefore, OTUB2 has a wide range of biological roles, including protecting against virus-induced activation of interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) and NF-κB, promoting beta cell survival in human pancreatic islets, and supporting the DNA repair pathway (PMID: 30662561, 35309903). OTUB2 is widely expressed, with high expression levels in the brain. OTUB2 has 2 isoforms with molecular weights of 9 kDa and 27 kDa.
