Background Information

Peroxisomes are ubiquitous organelles bound by a single membrane. Peroxisomal biogenesis factor 11 alpha (PEX11A) is one of PEX11 gene family members involved in peroxisome elongation. PEX11A is highly expressed in the kidney and liver (PMID: 25113963). PEX11A deficiency will impaire peroxisome elongation, leading to the reduction of functional peroxisome, eventually leading to the reduction of fatty acid oxidation capacity and the formation of steatosis (PMID: 23169785; PMID: 25113963)
