Background Information
GP130, also known as IL6ST, is a transmembrane protein that serves as a shared signal-transducing subunit for a variety of cytokines(PMID: 39414364), including interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-11, IL-27, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), oncostatin M (OSM), cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1), cardiotrophin-like cytokine (CLC)/CLC factor 1 (CLCF-1), and neuropoietin (PMID: 24099136). This protein is highly conserved among vertebrates and plays a crucial role in mediating interactions between a wide range of immune and non-immune cells. GP130 was originally discovered in 1978 and was successfully cloned and expressed in 1990, leading to a deeper understanding of cytokine signaling pathways (PMID: 308233).
