The Ccr4–Not complex is evolutionarily conserved and controls gene expression both at the level of transcription initiation and of mRNA degradation. And this complex can regulate pol II transcription. Promoter targeting of CCR4-NOT transcription complex subunit 2 (CNOT2) results in strong repression of pol II transcription. CNOT2-mediated repression is sensitive to the HDAC (histone deacetylase) inhibitor, TSA (trichostatin A).
