Background Information
ZFAND3, also known as the testis-expressed sequence 27 (Tex27), was first isolated from the mouse testis and its expression is essential for spermatogenesis. ZFAND3 is a type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)-susceptibility gene that is associated with susceptibility to the development of T2DM in humans. ZFAND3 is ubiquitously expressed, suggesting that ZFAND3 might have other roles in T2DM (PMID: 27137111, 33311477, 33782927).
