Background Information

ABCB4, also known as MDR3, is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABCB4 is expressed on the apical membrane of hepatocytes and functions to transport phosphatidylcholine (PC) from hepatocytes into the bile canaliculus (PMID: 16622704).
