Background Information

Alpha/beta hydrolase domain-containing protein 17A (ABHD17A), also known as FAM108A, is a membrane-localized thioesterase, which regulates H- and N-RAS39, also catalyzes the depalmitoylation of CNAβ1 causing it to redistribute from the PM to the cytosol and the Golgi (PMID: 34663815). ABHD17a is a major acyl protein thioesterase that site-specifically deacylates the STREX domain of the BK channel to control channel activity (PMID: 32913120). Western blot analysis detected ABHD17A at an apparent molecular mass of 34 kDa (PMID: 27307232), and the 70 kDa-band could be the dimer.
