Background Information
ACAD11 (Acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Family Member 11) is a mitochondrial enzyme protein belonging to the acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (ACAD) superfamily. It participates in the mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation metabolic pathway, catalyzing the dehydrogenation of long-chain fatty acyl-CoA. ACAD11 is one of the key enzymes for long-chain fatty acid oxidation; its functional deficiency can lead to fatty acid metabolism disorders and insufficient energy supply. In addition, ACAD11 is involved in lipid metabolism regulation and cellular energy homeostasis maintenance, and its abnormal expression is associated with metabolic diseases such as obesity, insulin resistance, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Studies have shown that ACAD11 may play a protective role in neurodegenerative diseases, participating in neuronal energy metabolism and oxidative stress defense.
