Background Information
AMELY gene was well-conserved in mammalian evolution, and homologous to AMELX on the X chromosome. AMELY plays a role in biomineralization, may regulate the formation of crystallites during the secretory stage of tooth enamel development. It was thought to play a major role in the structural organization and mineralization of developing enamel.
