Background Information
AP-3 complex subunit sigma-1 (AP3S1) is a component of the heterotetrameric adaptor protein complex-3 (AP-3), which plays a central role in intracellular protein trafficking (PMID: 34565296). AP3S1 is also a potential pan-cancer oncogene and plays an essential role in tumorigenesis and cancer immunity. Elevated expression of AP3S1 indicates an immunosuppressive microenvironment and can be used as a potential prognostic biomarker and a target for immunotherapy (PMID: 35874816; 38609993).
