Background Information
Beta,beta-carotene 9',10'-oxygenase (BCO2) catalyzes the asymmetric oxidative cleavage of beta-carotene in carotene metabolism. The apocarotenals formed by this enzyme may be the precursors for the biosynthesis of retinoic acid or exert unknown physiological effects. BCDO2 plays an important role in protecting against carotenoid-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and has a broader substrate specificity than previously recognized (PMID:22147584). This antibody detects the N-terminal of BCO2.
