Background Information
Cell division control protein 42 (Cdc42), a Rho family small GTPase, is involved in a wide range of basic cellular functions, including actin dynamics, cytoskeletal architecture, the cell cycle and cell polarity. Like all other members of small GTPase superfamily, Cdc42 functions as a molecular switch within the cell by alternating between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form (PMID: 40296562). Cdc42, the human homologue of the cell division cycle 42 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, belongs to the Rho/Rac subfamily of Ras-like GTPases. It acts as molecular switches to regulate numerous cellular responses including the organization of the actin cytoskeleton, gene transcription, cell cycle progression, and membrane trafficking. The molecular weight is about 21 kd.
