Background Information
CNGA4 (cyclic nucleotide gated channel subunit alpha 4), also known as CNG4. It is expected to be located in cell membrane. Cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels are crucial for visual and olfactory transductions (PMID: 12432397). Native CNG channels are heterotetramers composed of homologous A and B subunits. Olfactory CNG channels are composed of three types of subunits, CNGA2, CNGA4, and CNGB1b (PMID: 15134638). CNGA4 is a modulatory subunit which contributes to the high cAMP sensitivity of the native olfactory channel. By accelerating the calcium-mediated negative feedback in olfactory signaling it allows rapid adaptation of native olfactory neurons to odorants (PMID: 11739959; 11739960). The molecular weight of CNGA4 is 65 kDa, and it can recognize the 48 kDa isoform.
