Background Information
Tumstatin is a cleavage fragment(C-term-245aa) corresponding to the collagen alpha 3(IV) NC1 domain, possesses both anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor cell activity; these two anti-tumor properties may be regulated via RGD-independent ITGB3-mediated mechanisms. Tumstatin indicated proapoptotic activity by selective inhibition of protein synthesis on endothelial cells. At normal physiologic levels, tumstatin, a cleavage product of the alpha3 chain of type IV collagen, is capable of suppressing pathologic angiogenesis and tumor growth, according to animal study findings published in the June issue of Cancer Cell.
