Background Information
Catenin alpha-like protein 1 (CTNNAL1, also known as alpha-catulin) is a cytoplasmic molecule that integrates the crosstalk between nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and Rho signaling pathways. It plays a crucial role in maintaining epithelial integrity and promoting wound repair in bronchial epithelial cells. CTNNAL1 has been shown to inhibit ozone-induced airway epithelial-mesenchymal transition and regulate mucus hypersecretion induced by house dust mite (HDM) (PMID: 38602002). Additionally, CTNNAL1 promotes the structural integrity of bronchial epithelial cells through the RhoA/ROCK1 pathway (PMID: 36535402). In cancer, CTNNAL1 regulates cancer stem cells (CSCs) in lung cancer and glioblastoma, modulating their migration and invasion abilities (PMID: 37239133).
