Background Information
DEDD2 (Death Effector Domain-containing protein 2) is a conserved pro-apoptotic protein that harbors a single death effector domain and is predominantly expressed in liver, kidney and leukocytes. Upon overexpression DEDD2 translocates to the nucleus via a bipartite nuclear localization signal, interacts with caspase-8/10 and sensitizes cells to Fas- or TRAIL-induced apoptosis, but not to Bax- or staurosporine-mediated death . Its nuclear import is essential for apoptotic activity, positioning DEDD2 as a regulator of death-receptor-triggered nuclear events (PMID: 11741985).
