Background Information
Endothelin-converting enzymes (ECEs) are the key enzymes in the endothelin (ET) biosynthesis that catalyze the conversion of big ET, the biologically inactive precursor of mature ET. Two enzymes, termed ECE-1 and ECE-2, have been molecularly identified. ECE2(Endothelin-converting enzyme 2) is also named as KIAA0604 and belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily in the N-terminal section, belongs to the peptidase M13 family in the C-terminal section. It is able to process endoproteolytically peptides intermediates to generate biologically active peptides.
