Background Information

ELA3A, also known as CELA3A (Chymotrypsin Like Elastase 3A), is synthesized in the pancreas and secreted into the intestine as an inactive precursor, or zymogen, to prevent it from digesting the pancreas itself. Structurally, the mature protein is 270 amino acids long with a molecular mass of approximately 29.5 kDa . It contains a conserved trypsin-like serine protease domain (Peptidase S1) characteristic of its function.
