Background Information
FNDC4 is a member of the fibronectin type III domain family of proteins. It is a secreted factor consisting of a C-terminal hydrophobic domain, a type III fibronectin domain, and an N-terminal membrane signaling region. FNDC4 is expressed at the highest levels in the liver and brain, but its expression levels are lower in many other tissues, including the heart, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue. The N-terminal of FNDC4 can be cleaved, releasing the extracellular portion of the protein. (PMID: 32881638; 27066907)
