Background Information

FOXD3, also named as HFH2, belongs to the forkhead family of transcription factors which is characterized by a distinct forkhead domain. FOXD3 binds to the consensus sequence 5'-A[AT]T[AG]TTTGTTT-3' and acts as a transcriptional repressor. It also acts as a transcriptional activator. FOXD3 promotes development of neural crest cells from neural tube progenitors. It restricts neural progenitor cells to the neural crest lineage while suppressing interneuron differentiation. It required for maintenance of pluripotent cells in the pre-implantation and peri-implantation stages of embryogenesis. FOXD3 has one isoform produced by alternative splicing with the MW of 47 kDa. It can be detected as 57-60 kDa in some literature(PMID: 31940493).
