Background Information
Guanine nucleotide-binding protein G(z) subunit alpha(GNAZ) is a member of a G protein subfamily that mediates signal transduction in pertussis toxin-insensitive systems. Heterotrimeric G proteins consist of alpha (α), beta (β), and gamma (γ) subunits. G proteins act as molecular switches inside cells, functioning to relay and transmit signals from cell surface receptors to intracellular effectors(PMID: 35052777). GNAS transduces signals from G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) to adenyl cyclase (AC), and finally regulates the expression of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)(PMID: 32700107).
